The law enforcement agencies (LEAs) on Saturday unveiled latest CCTV camera footage of a suspected person that they believe was involved in the abduction, rape and murder of the seven-year-old Zainab in Kasur district. In the footage, a bearded man having a resemblance with her abductor can be seen roaming in a street where Zainab's house is situated. The suspect was seen wearing a dark colored cap, apparently a grey shalwar kameez and a brown jacket. However, investigators probing this high-profile case have clarified that the man is only among one of the prime suspected persons. They anticipated that the video will help in making headway in the case as it is far clearer than the earlier available CCTV footage.
On Friday, Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Arif Nawaz Khan confirmed that the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) had received the DNA test results which indicated the involvement of one perpetrator in more than seven cases reported in the Kasur district over the past year or so. He asserted that the police would soon arrest the actual killer(s) or rapist(s), adding the JIT was probing this case with full dedication and available evidences collected so far. "Many suspected persons have been rounded up and their statements have also been recorded."
On Thursday, the provincial government had replaced the head of the JIT after the father of the victim expressed his dissatisfaction over Abu Bakar Khuda Bux's religious beliefs. Now Multan RPO Muhammad Idrees will head the JIT.
