The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Friday imposed ban on smoking corners and directed all the restaurants to immediately close all such corners on their premises. This decision was unanimously taken by PFA's board members in the 26th Board Meeting. PFA Director General Noor-ul-Amin Mengal and PFA Chairman Amir Hayat Haraj jointly chaired the meeting called to take steps for ensuring the availability of healthy food at food points, restaurants and shops by overcoming the food safety issues besides reviewing the PFA progress.
Addressing the meeting, the PFA Director General said the PFA is making all efforts to provide best facilities to the people. He said all the restaurants are bound to fix notices in visible fonts reading 'smoking is strictly prohibited in the limits of restaurants'. He said the board has taken this decision to keep restaurants environment and food safe. Smoking is injurious to health and indirectly affects the health of people / visitors including children who come for enjoyment in restaurants.
