Brazil court increases Lula sentence to 12 years

A Brazilian court has upheld ex-president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's conviction for corruption and increased his jail sentence to 12 years. The unanimous verdict by the three-judge appeals court in the southern city of Porto Alegre also deals a serious blow to Lula's hopes of running in presidential elections in October, which he was favoured to win.
