Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) on Friday confirmed that Mardan's four-year-old Asma was subjected to sexual assault. Body of Asma was found dumped in a sugarcane field near her house in Mardan on January 14, after she went missing while she was playing outside her house located in Gujjar Garhi area of Mardan.
Earlier, family of the little girl, local authorities and doctors had voiced suspicion that she was subjected to sexual assault before she was strangulated to death. Confirming the rape assault on the toddler, Director General PFSA Dr Mohammad Ashraf Tahir said DNA tests were carried out on samples garnered from the crime scene. KP Inspector General of Police also visited Mardan.
While addressing to news conference at Mardan press club, District Police Officer (DPO) Mian Saeed Ahmed told the media that four teams were established to investigate the case from different angles. He added that a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) is also organized in his supervision to investigate the case.
He said that the deceased was allegedly killed by pressing her throat while signs of torture were also found on her body. The CJP also took suo moto action in the murder and directed police to submit report in 24 hours. Meanwhile according to a press statement issued by local police, the Inspector General of Police, Salah-ud-Din Masud also visited Mardan on Friday.
