Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani said on Friday that mechanism to ensure implementation on the decisions of the standing committees needs to be further improved to get more tangible results, adding that the government is also working on introducing legislation to this effect. He said this while addressing the last meeting of the Council of Chairmen held in the Parliament House.
The chairman remarked that he strongly believes in collective decision making and during the three years, collective approach at the House Business Advisory Committee level and the Council of Chairmen and other important forums has rendered outstanding results and the House acted as one voice.
He said that the committees have done a wonderful job during this time, adding that ministerial response to the recommendations of the committees helped the House play more active and vibrant role. "There is need to keep that pace and vibrancy alive," he said.
The Council of Chairmen in its last meeting asked the heads of numerous committees to transact all the legislative and other parliamentary business as soon as possible to avoid any delay and complete its assigned tasks in wake of expiry of their tenure.
On the occasion Deputy Chairman Senate Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri eulogized the contributions of Rabbani as Chairman of the Senate and admitted the fact that he made decisions while taking all on board. "I have never witnessed such vibrancy in my career as parliamentarian," he said.
Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan said that Raza Rabbani has set standards and benchmarks for efficient working. The steps taken for preserving the history of democratic struggle would go a long way in strengthening the foundations of democracy in the country.
The Council of Chairmen also praised the guidance and contributions of Raza Rabbani as chairman Senate. Deputy Chairman Senate Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, Leader of the Opposition Aitzaz Ahsan, heads of various committees and Secretary Senate Amjad Pervez Malik also participated in the meeting. Secretary Senate Amjad Pervez Malik also briefed the Council about the implementation status of the decisions.
