Asma's rape-murder case: SC slams performance of KP police

31 Jan, 2018

Criticizing the lackluster performance of KPK police in probing the rape and murder of a girl Asma in Mardan, the Supreme Court Tuesday asked the police officials to submit comprehensive report by February 06. Taking up a suo motu notice in the matter, a three-member bench of Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar observed that the KPK police have completely failed to perform in the case.
Appearing before the bench, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) KPK Alam Khan Shinwari apprised the bench that as many as 350 people have been interrogated so far in addition to identification of a few suspects. He submitted that police are currently waiting for Punjab Forensics Lab Agency to send the results of the DNA test report. To which, expressing dismay, Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar said as to why the KPK government has no forensics lab of its own to test DNA. The hearing of the matter was adjourned till February 06.
