Supreme Court of Pakistan has disqualified PML-N Senator Nehal Hashmi over criticism of higher judiciary by him. He has also been awarded a one-month imprisonment and a Rs 50,000 fine. While there can be no dispute about the fact that a highly irresponsible PML-N Senator deserved some punishment for hurling threats at judges his disqualification for five years appears to be a bit disproportionate. The apex court is therefore requested to take a lenient view of other PML-N leaders who too now face contempt of court proceedings for their diatribes against the higher judiciary. In the meantime, Nawaz Sharif, the PML-N chief is required to revisit his judge-bashing strategy without any further loss of time in order to protect and preserve his party's electoral prospects in the July 2018 elections.
