Accoun-tability Court hearing corruption reference against former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar Wednesday reserved its judgment on a petition against Dar's asset freeze till February 14. Dar, a close relative and aide of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, is accused of possessing assets disproportionate to his declared sources of income. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has filed a reference against him in the light of the Supreme Court's July 28, 2017 judgment in Panama Papers case.
Advocate Qazi Misbah appeared on behalf of Dar and requested the court to dismiss its order of freezing and seizing Dar's assets. "Hajveri Foundation is a welfare institution where we cannot do sale and purchase," he said. He said that board of the foundation makes all decisions and then executes them. Prosecutor NAB Imran Shafique while objecting to Dar's plea argued that the defendant should have approached the court within 14 days of the order which was not done.
Misbah responded that he received the order late; otherwise, a swift response would have been conducted. The court after hearing the argument reserved its verdict till February 14.
