Anti-polio campaign starts

A three-day national anti-polio campaign Monday kicked off with the objective to vaccinate more than 19.1 million children by 47,000 polio teams. Punjab Minister for Primary & Secondary Health (P&SH) Kh Imran Nazir, while inaugurating three-day national anti-polio campaign at the basic health unit "Kotha Klaan," said the Punjab government is spending more than Rs 10 billion every year to carry out anti-polio campaigns. He said that thousands of polio teams comprising two persons in each team constituted for door-to-door vaccination of the children. "Polio has been eradicated from the world, however, in Pakistan, war against polio is still going on," he said, adding: "Due to the tremendous improvement in the routine immunization coverage & successful anti-polio campaigns, only one polio case was reported during the last two years in Punjab."
