Pulses' import slumps by 62 percent

The country's import of pulses slumped by 62 percent to $315.430 million in July-January 2017-18, as importers say that the commodity prices on world markets are likely to fall further. Fall in the import bill of pulses now stands at $175.523 million in July-January 2017-18 lower from $490.953 million in July-January 2016-17, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics says.
Import volume of pulses also plunged by 41 percent or 241, 230 metric tons to 352,096 metric tons in July-January 2017-18 from 593, 326 metric tons in July-January 2016-17. In January 2018, pulses import scaled down to $45.542 million from $119.777 million in January 2017, down by 62 percent or $74.235 million. The country imported 52,925 metric tons of pulses in January 2018 lower by 67.04 percent or 107,650 metric tons from 160,575 metric tons in January 2017.
