24 Feb, 2018

Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said on Friday that the Punjab government will submit a resolution against the National Accountability Bureau for arresting former director general (DG) of Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Ahad Cheema without adopting due process of law. He was talking to media outside the Punjab Assembly. He said the provincial government has never supported any corrupt officer. "We have always taken action against corrupt officers, however, if any solid evidence is brought forth against him we shall not support him," he said.
Rana said he totally disagreed with the view that constitution is supreme. He said parliament is supreme which created this constitution. "How creation could be supreme as compared to its creator," he questioned. Earlier, the session of Punjab Assembly started 50 minutes late under the chair of Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Muhammad Iqbal. PTI MPA Dr Nosheen Hamid tried to talk on a point of order on the promotion of former DG LDA Ahad Khan Cheema who was accused of corruption in Ashiana Housing Scheme scandal but she was not allowed by the speaker which promoted the opposition to stage a symbolic walkout from the Punjab Assembly.
Opposition leader Mahmood-ur-Rasheed also submitted a resolution in the Assembly demanding that Ahad Cheema should be suspended immediately and the orders of his promotion in grade 20 should be withdrawn. The resolution also condemned the behaviour of some officers who protested against the arrest of Ahad Cheema. Speaker Rana Muhmmad Iqbal said Cheema was given promotion by the federal government and the provincial government has nothing to do with it. Treasury benches failed to fill the quorum pointed out by PPP MPA Faiza Malik. The Speaker adjourned the session till Monday.
