Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Saturday came down hard on use of public money for self-projection and sought detailed report from Chief Secretary Punjab about printing of Shahbaz Sharif's pictures on advertisements about laptops and health cards including the total expense incurred on the laptop scheme.
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar took suo motu notice during the hearing of dumping polluted water in rivers. State resources cannot be used for "personal projection, Justice Umar Ata Bandial said, adding that same would not be allowed to continue. "Shahbaz Sharif instead of showcasing work through advertisements should concentrate on doing concrete work," he said.
"Why do the pictures of the CM Punjab surface everywhere even date sheets have Shahbaz's pictures printed on them," CJP remarked after someone presented date sheet of 8th class bearing Shahbaz Sharif's picture. Chief Justice Nisar emphasized that the political parties must not use the funds allocated for public for their promotion campaign. This must be done through their party resources, the CJP underlined, noting that those who are virtuous serve in secret.
The CJP warned the government officials to mend their ways while they still have time. "The court is deeply concerned and apprehensive about the increasing national debt," said Chief Justice and adjourned the proceedings for further hearing.
