Mudassar Manzoor engaged viewers through his synchronizing dynamic compositions, colour tones and textures in an exhibition of paintings at Chawkandi Gallery, Karachi. Using traditional techniques and styles in a new innovative way Mudassar expressed both his philosophical and emotional concerns about the society.
His paintings combined realism and expressionism carrying the enigma of existence, both on the real and ideal levels. He highlighted both the revealed and the hidden social situations of common people. His combination of traditional medium with new modern media captured the inner character and personality of people. He defined and discovered the human psyche related to social behaviours through his paintings.
He created images with strong impulse showing different sides of culture in a society from soft to rigid. He used human figures symbolically with white clouds and white spaces giving a mystic touch to his work. He handled the subject with sensitivity which can be judged by his choice of symbolic objects and characters. He has chosen unpopular signs to express his feelings towards society. He used soft tones with soft symbols even for harsh realities.
There were many thought provoking artworks that invited a viewer to ponder. The images vary from painting to painting giving a vast scope to people to deal with. He truly portrayed the feelings of life that is a mystery for all humanity as long as we live. His unique style was appreciable and his sensitive handling of media was good.
The colour pattern and the backdrop of his paintings supported his work; especially the use of white colour balanced his painting and gave it a soft mystic look.
Some of his paintings in diptych and triptych showed a battle between two soldiers having four arms the two arms are fighting while the other two bare arms trying to hide the naked body of the soldier thus explaining a comparison of life experiences good and bad, happiness and sadness, positive and negative. Hence he tried to bring forth love and compassion for humanity versus hatred and destruction of the societies just because of some people's egos, pride, prejudice and selfishness.
