The Punjab government has deferred a project for setting up of 10 new public parks in the city, said sources. They said the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) have given up the idea of setting up parks ahead of general elections. Total budget allocated for the project was Rs 70 million and the government had even issued Rs 10 million additional budget for the purpose.
The sources said the project has been dropped due to non-availability of land in relevant areas including Shadab Colony, Bhaisan, Aasil Suleman, Gurumangat, Narwar village and other localities.
The sources said the budget has been shifted to other projects, particularly the Orange Line Train. Already, the Punjab government is under severe attack by the opposition for transferring health sector budgets to the train project which is being constructed on war-footing basis.
