Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Port Qasim on Wednesday claimed to have confiscated huge quantity of betel nuts imported under the guise of 'Wax Granules' at Port Qasim. The MCC has received a tip-off which revealed that an attempt would be made to smuggle huge quantity of betel nuts from Jebel Ali, UAE.
Reacting on it, strict surveillance was mounted on consignments shipped from the said port. Resultantly, the MCC during scrutiny of imported consignments transpired two consignments destined for dry port Quetta imported in the name of Balochistan Enterprises. The same was declared as Wax Granules, weighting 55 tones stuffed in two 40ft containers and manifested against two TPs.
Due to the suspicious nature of the consignments, the subject containers were put to examination by the CIU team which led to the recovery of huge quantity of betel nuts instead of the declared Wax Granules. Consequent upon the recovery, the case has being registered and further investigation is in progress.
