SC directs Pervez Khattak to pay 1.3mn for KP govt ad featuring his picture

The Supreme Court (SC) ordered on Friday former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Pervez Khattak to deposit Rs1.3 million in a case pertaining to his picture being featured in a provincial government advertisement.

The bench, headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar, was hearing a suo motu case relating to advertisements by the Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab governments. The CJP was informed by the additional advocate general for KP that the former CM was willing to deposit Rs 1.365 million, local media reported.

The CJP directed Khattak to deposit the said amount within 10 days and submit the SC a report after the amount was deposited. On November 29, the KP government had submitted a report to the SC which the top court had rejected. The SC had sought a reply from the KP government over its advertisements in which Khattak’s pictures were featured.

In the same suo motu case, Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz President Shehbaz Sharif  had been ordered by the top court to pay Rs5.5 million. Similarly, Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah was directed to pay Rs1.4 million.
