Business Recorder op-ed writer Syed Bakhtiyar Kazmi is undoubtedly a very well-read person. In his last article, he had argued, among other things, "frankly, never have bad policy decisions ever been a bane for those at the helm of powers. The voters are incapable of discerning the cause of their misery; there is a thin line between controllable and uncontrollable calamities. Accountability for corruption is not the same as accountability for incompetence."
It is true that voters are utterly incapable to appreciate the factors behind their woes. But the question is: What can they really do even if they identify the cause of their misery? Kazmi sahib ought to appreciate the fact that there is a culture of defeat in our country; there is, therefore, a thin line between competence and incompetence.
