Gold import surges by 28 percent

The country's import of gold surged by 28 percent to $13.180 million in July-February 2017-18, official figures say. Increase in gold import now comes to the value of $2.868 million in July-February 2017-18 from $10.312 million in July-February 2016-17, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics shows.
In term of volume, gold import went up by 17.27 percent or $48 million to 326 kilograms in July-February 2017-18 from 278 kilograms in July-February 2016-17. In February 2018, the country imported $335,000 of gold, which is lower by 67.19 percent or $686,000 from $1.021 million in February 2017.
Volume of gold import in February 2018 also slumped by 62 percent or 16 kilograms to 10 kilograms from 26 kilograms in February 2017.
