A division bench of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday dismissed the appeal of former Chairman Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) Absar Alam and upheld the decision of setting aside his appointment as chairman Pemra. A single bench comprising Justice Shahid Karim had declared the appointment of Absar Alam void and directed the federal government to make a new appointment strictly on merit. Absar through his counsel Amir Saeed Rawn had argued that the court could not strike down an appointment in response to a petition filed as public interest litigation.
