Shahbaz sees no development in Sindh

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shahbaz Sharif said on Saturday that his party would actively participate in the upcoming general elections from Sindh and for this purpose, work has been started. Talking to senior journalists at the Governor's House here, Shahbaz Sharif said he would soon pay a detailed visit to Sindh. Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair and Senators Mushahid Hussain Syed, Mushahidullah Khan and Saleem Zia were also present in the meeting.
The Punjab Chief Minister made it clear that the development in Punjab has been achieved through the province's own resources and its share in the National Finance Commission (NFC) award. He said the Sindh province also had the NFC share and other resources, but despite that there was no development in the province.
Shahbaz Sharif said the Punjab province cut its NFC share and gave funds to other provinces. Lauding the services of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, he said the federal government took keen interest in development projects in Sindh, as it contributed to Green Line Mass Transit scheme, bulk water supply K-IV project, Lyari Expressway, Karach-Hyderabad Motorway, Thar Coal Power Plant and Port Qasim Power Plant.
He said the restoration of peace in Karachi is the result of practical steps by the PML-N government, as the law and order situation has improved in the metropolis. Shahbaz Sharif said if the PML-N elected to power in the upcoming general election, it's government would pay special attention towards the development of Sindh, adding that measures would be taken for infrastructure development, public transport, solid waste management and other public welfare projects. Answering a question, the PML-N president said there is no grouping in his party.
BR staff reporter adds: Shahbaz Sharif, flanked by Governor Sindh Muhammad Zubair, offered fateha and laid floral wreaths at the Quaid's mausoleum. Talking to media persons at Mazar-e-Quaid, PML-N leader said his party is endeavouring to work for the prosperity of Pakistan envisioned by the father of the nation Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Shahbaz Sharif also met with a delegation of lawyers, headed by former Supreme Court Bar Association president Yasin Azaad, at the Governor's House. While addressing the delegation, Shahbaz praised the contribution of the lawyers' community towards the country's progress. "The lawyers' community waged a great struggle for restoration of democracy," said Shahbaz, adding "lawyers play a significant role in dispensing justice to ordinary citizens." No society can progress without justice and law, he asserted.
Shahbaz also remarked that he would improve the conditions in Karachi if given the chance after the upcoming general elections. "People in Karachi are being denied basic facilities; we have to bring lights back to the city," Shahbaz said. Shahbaz also held a meeting with Sindh governor upon arrival in the metropolis. Earlier, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz arrived at Karachi Airport where party workers told media persons that they were being ignored by the local and national leadership. He did not meet party activists waiting for him at the airport in blistering heat and left for Governor's House.
