Appeals of three convicted terrorists of TTP rejected

The Supreme Court Wednesday dismissed the appeals of three convicted terrorists of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) against their incarcerations. A three-member bench, headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa and comprising Justice Maqbool Baqar and Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel, was hearing the appeals of the convicted persons.
The bench after hearing the arguments of both sides ruled that the links of the convicts with the terrorist outfit had been established, besides no technical fault was found on the record of the case; thus, their appeals deserve to be dismissed.
Justice Khosa noted that the appellants were caught red-handed with 840kg of explosive material, adding that they also had opened fire at the police party which raided them. Three terrorists - Asif Sheraz, Muhammad Niaz and Haji Habib - of the TTP were sentenced to 14 years each in jail after they were found guilty in possession of explosives during a police operation in Peshawar.
The trial court had convicted them on terrorism charges and later their appeals against the convictions were also dismissed by the Peshawar High Court. The counsel for the appellants apprised the court that one of the convicts Haji Habib had died in jail, while the other was a minor, thus some leniency and mercy may be showed.
