Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Captain Muhammad Safdar (retd) can visit the ailing Kulsoom Nawaz in London, where she is currently undergoing cancer treatment, as the next date of hearing of their case is scheduled for April 30. The Accountability Court hearing corruption cases against the Sharif family members adjourned the hearing of the Avenfield reference till April 30 during the last hearing held on April 25.
Sharif and his daughter Maryam had traveled to London on April 18 after attending the hearing to see Kulsoom Nawaz and returned to the country on April 22. There was a one-day break in the court hearing on April 19 while Sharif and his daughter had availed a one-day exemption on April 20 from the court. Barrister Ali Zafar, former President Supreme Court Bar Association, while talking to Business Recorder said that the Sharif family can visit London during the two weekly holidays - Saturday and Sunday - or during the days when the Accountability Court is not hearing cases against them as the government has so far not placed their names on the Exit Control List (ECL).
National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on February 14 recommended placing the names of the Sharif family members on the ECL. Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal stated on March 16 last that the matter of placing the name of Nawaz Sharif and his family members on the ECL would be decided by the federal cabinet.
