Deputy Commissioner Lahore Sumair Ahmed Syed has said that it is the duty of religious scholars of different sects of Islam and other religions to promote peace and harmony in the society. He expressed these views while chairing a meeting of District Peace and Inter-Faith Harmony Committee here on Monday. It was attended by renowned religious scholars belonging to all Islamic sects, Hinduism and Christianity along with police and district administration officials.
He further said that Ulema should play their role for the advocacy of love, brotherhood, peace and harmony among the citizens and they must work with the district administration to achieve this goal.
"Two important Islamic events, Shab-e-Barat and Ramzan-ul-Mubarak, is approaching soon and thus the religious scholars, with the support of district administration, should convey a message of love, brotherhood, religious tolerance and peace to the citizens through their sermons," he added.
To discourage use of firecrackers and mini bombs on Shab-e-Barat, the DC directed the local police take an action against manufactures and sellers the fireworks. "Similarly, for Shab-e-Barat and Ramzan-ul-Mubarik, the police should ensure comprehensive security arrangements. The district administration will also implement the Ehtheram-e-Ramzan Ordinance during the month of Ramzan," he added.
In response, the Ulema said that they will work with district administration for promotion of peace and tolerance in the society. They also ensured the DC that they will guide the citizens, particularly children, against usage of firecrackers and mini bombs on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat, which is an un-Islamic act.
