SC appropriate forum to challenge Nawaz's powers: SHC

05 May, 2018

Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday ruled that Supreme Court (SC) is the appropriate forum to challenge Nawaz Sharif's powers bestowed on him by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) under capacity of supreme leader. SHC directed the petitioner to move apex court in this case after SC issued a detailed verdict in the case of president of a political party after he is disqualified for holding a public office under article 62 & 63 of the constitution.
Iqbal Kazmi Advocate filed a petition in SHC to restrain Nawaz Sharif from post of PML-N's supreme leader couple of days back. Petitioner prayed that Nawaz Sharif was ousted from both premiership and PML-N's leadership by Supreme Court in its landmark July-28 verdict in Panamagate. Kazmi stated that Nawaz Sharif -despite country's top court verdict- is incessantly utilising powers.
Petitioner alleged that Nawaz Sharif's actions stood in contravention to both Constitution and law and by using powers under capacity of PML-N supreme leader, Sharif is being guilty of contempt of court. Federal government, attorney general and PML-N were made plaintiffs in the petition.
SHC resumed the hearing on the petition on Friday and directed the petitioner to go to SC for such petition after apex court issued a detailed verdict on disqualification on public office holder to run for a party office.
