Grand Hyatt Apartments: NAB fails to submit report in PAC moot

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) did not submit its investigative report regarding Grand Hyatt apartments Islamabad in Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meeting held here on Tuesday. A meeting of the sub-committee of PAC was held here on Tuesday to discuss issues related to Capital Development Authority (CDA) including the matter of One Constitution Avenue. The meeting was chaired by MNA Mian Abdul Manan while officials from CDA, NAB and FIA were also present in the meeting.
During the meeting, the committee was told that NAB has sent two mutual legal assistance (MLA) requests in process of investigation and the response on MLA requests will be duly informed to the committee. NAB told the committee that investigation report could only be finalized after getting responses.
The PAC committee asked NAB to present report on the next meeting of PAC on 22nd May but the bureau could not give the timeline for submission of report. Meanwhile, the approved recommendations of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development also called for resolving the issue of Grand Hyatt apartments.
The Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development made the following recommendations in its meeting: The committee recommended that Ministry of Foreign Affairs may submit protection policy before the committee in next meeting.
The committee recommended that the possession of flats should be given to allottees at the earliest.
The committee recommended that the Chief Justice of Pakistan and Chairman NAB to safeguard the interests of the innocent overseas Pakistanis. The committee recommended that the Additional Legal Advisor CDA should immediately withdraw all cases related to Grand Hyatt Hotel in all courts.
The committee recommended that complete details about Pakistanis imprisoned in different countries, along with the nature of crime and assistance provided to them, should be provided to it.
