Corp Commander Peshawar Lieutenant General Nazir Ahmad Butt along with Inspector General Frontier Corp (IGFC), Major General Waseem Ashraf and Commissioner Peshawar, Shahab Ali Shah visited the Torkham border on Tuesday and examined routine activities of various departments along the border. The officials visited terminals of Federal Intelligence Agency (FIA), National Logistic Cell (NLC) and Immigration counter where they were briefed by the concerned officials about the daily business.
They also warmly met with the Afghan border security soldiers at the zero point of the border and exchanged good gesture with them. Later on briefing to the media persons Political Agent, Khyber Agency, Islam Zeb said that the officials during their visit took some important decisions to enhance trade ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
He added that quarantine, made compulsory for perishable items, import from Afghanistan via Torkham has been declared void and null and the Torkham Customs office was asked to boost up its clearance process to encourage trade. To facilitate the local traders, PA said more entrance and exit points would be constructed and hurdles in front of markets in Torkham would be removed. Earlier, extra security measures had been adopted in the area on the arrival of the officials.
