Besides offering so many new facilities, the City Traffic Police (CTP) Lahore has established a state-of-the-art gymnasium at Traffic Police Lines Manawan with an aim to keep traffic wardens fit and healthy. "We have also established a state-of-the-art hybrid water filtration plant to ensure provision of clean drinking water to our officials," said Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Rai Ejaz Ahmed while talking to a group of journalists who visited the Manawan Lines.
He said the plant has the capacity to produce 1200 gallons of clean drinking water in a single day. "The availability of clean drinking water in the city is not more than a blessing," the CTO remarked. "A subsidized mess has also been established while free of cost laundry service and hair cutting service is also being provided to the wardens," he said.
As summer has approached, the construction of a swimming pool is also on the anvil. The CTO said they have also engaged a former Punjab body-building champion for the training and motivation of the wardens. Presently, over 150 officials are residing at the Manawan Lines and it will be mandatory for them to use the gymnasium facility daily for over one hour, he added.
To provide first aid to the ailing officials, he said, a dispensary has also been set up for the treatment of minor diseases or injuries. "We are also providing an ambulance service to transport the ailing wardens to nearby hospitals from any point in the city including the lines," he said, adding that a Jamia Mosque has also been constructed for their convenience besides so many other facilities.
Keeping in view the convenience and welfare of lady wardens, a separate building has also been allocated for them where no male official is allowed to enter except in emergency cases. He said late DIG Traffic Syed Ahmed Mubeen, who was martyred in a suicide on Charing Cross (The Mall) in February last year, wanted to complete these projects under his supervision but he could not survive.
To pay homage to the departed soul, now we have named some buildings after martyred DIG Traffic Mubeen, the CTO said, adding that sacrifices of cops for the safety of lives and properties are the clear examples that they are not corrupt in general, but a few could be.
