An accountability court on Friday granted three days remand to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) of former Director General Lahore Development Authority Ahad Khan Cheema and Shahid Shafique of Bismillah Engineering involved in Ashiana Housing Scheme scam.
Earlier NAB Prosecutor Waris Ali Janjua told the court that Ahad Cheema invested his ill-gotten money in a car show room on Jail Road, Lahore besides purchasing plots in Islamabad. He said the LDA's former head purchased 21 kanal lands in the name of his wife. He further said that there was a huge difference in income and assets of Cheema and the bureau required more time to investigate the matter. He said Cheema was also required for investigation regarding Paragon Housing Society.
The court observed that the bureau had already exhausted 87-day remand of the suspects and under the law it could not retain them beyond 90 days.
Lawyers of the suspects also opposed the NAB's request and stated that the bureau was asking for dual remand in one inquiry. They said the law did not allow separate remand in same inquiry. The court granted three days remand and rose for next Monday.
