The Karachi Port handled 185,352 tonnes of cargo comprising 149,370 tonnes of import cargo and 35,982 tonnes of export cargo including 6,870 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 149,370 tonnes comprised of 52,966 tonnes of containerised cargo; 7,843 tonnes of bulk cargo; 13,887 tonnes of coal; 3,220 tonnes of soyabean meal; 3,550 tonnes of rock phosphate and 47,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 35,982 tonnes comprised of 23,363 tonnes of containerised cargo; 803 tonnes of bulk cargo; 1,923 tonnes of wheat; 2,500 tonnes of talcum powder and 3,400 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
As many as 6,870 containers comprising of 3,685 containers import and 3,185 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.
The breakup of imported containers shows 1,269 of 20's and 1,159 of 40's loaded while 18 of 20's and 40 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 573 of 20's and 395 of 40's loaded containers while 464 of 20's and 679 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were seven ships namely Bomar Hermes, MSC Positano, Kota Kasturi, Sufolk Trader, Cosco Colombo, Golden Ray and Al Mahboobah carrying containers, oil tanker and chemical respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There were five vessels viz. Maliakos, Sufolk Trader, MT Khan, Meltemi and Arwa carrying containers, oil tankers and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.
