Partly Facetious : The caretaker challenge

01 Jun, 2018

"The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) should get the symbol of a swing."
"Swing as in what children play on?"
"Yes, because they simply go up and then down and up again and then down..."
"Isn't that a see saw."
"A see-saw is grounded, you know there is so high you can go and can't go further down than the base but the height a swing takes depends on individuals - I know some who go dangerously high till the swing drops almost vertically while others kind of swing back and forth with their feet on the ground all the time if you know what I mean."
"OK, so I guess you are referring to the PTI giving a proposed name for the caretaker set up, others agreeing to it, and then getting suspicious about the others agreement..."
"That's not the way to look at it."
"I don't quite see the party being guided by comments on the social media, perhaps with respect to selecting candidates to give party tickets to, but not for nominating a caretaker. I mean I find myself pretty much engaged in the political process but even I wouldn't care who nominates whom for the position of a caretaker."
"That's not the way to see the reversal of the party's vote of confidence for their proposed caretaker chief ministers."
"OK I give up! So what got them to change their mind?"
"How is the Khan's relationship with his third wife?"
"I don't know, it's their personal matter, besides what does that have to do with anything."
"I reckon he failed to consult with his wife, his spiritual leader and..."
"I heard spirituality doesn't last too long once a marriage takes place and..."
"Shush, anyway I heard he didn't consult with her and she told him that if Khosa sahib becomes the caretaker chief minister of Punjab the PTI will lose Punjab to Shahbaz Sharif."
"Not true, I saw the party leaders sitting around a table and after debate took the informed decision to withdraw the two caretaker chief ministers' names and replace them with...with..."
"The party had no alternate names for with positions, so I am right."
"How do you conclude that?"
"If the party had decided after a discussion wouldn't a new name have been mentioned at the same time?"
"That requires logic and logic and Pakistani politics don't go together."
"There I would agree."
