The Election Commission Punjab has sought deployment of Pakistan Rangers in its vicinity to avoid security risk during the receiving of nomination papers, the sources said. According to the sources, the EC Punjab has written a letter to the provincial Home department that security would be a serious concern during heavy presence of expected candidates and their supporters for filing of nomination papers.
They said the provincial government has conveyed it concern to the federal government and the deployment of Rangers is expected in next two days. The EC Punjab would receive applications from candidates from 4th of June to 8th of June. A candidate for National Assembly seat will deposit security fee of Rs 30,000 while the provincial candidate will deposit Rs 20,000. As many as 100 candidates from various political parties submitted their nomination papers on the first day.
