Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman announced 12-point manifesto of the MMA for the general election 2018. Addressing a press conference along with other MMA leaders including Allama Syed Sajid Ali Naqvi and Sirajul Haq, MMA president Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that if comes to powers, the MMA government would ensure protection of the rights and worship places of the minorities.
"If MMA comes to power, the alliance will make all-out efforts to build mega water reservoirs in consultation with other political parties and stakeholders to deal with looming water crisis," he said, adding that the MMA would provide jobs to locals under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects.
He said all steps would be taken to impart locals with the latest technological training to take full advantage of the project.
Fazl said the MMA government would introduce uniform educational system instead of current class-based educational system which is just increasing gap between the rich and the poor. He said women would have equal opportunities to education and jobs and the MMA government would ensure merit at all levels. He said investment by overseas Pakistani would be encouraged. He said interest-based business would be abolished completely and Nizam-e-Mustafa (PBUH) would be implemented in the country and all Islamic articles in the Constitution would be protected.
"Independent judiciary, sovereign parliament, independent foreign policy and devolution of powers to local level are also part of the MMA manifesto," he said, adding that Islamic laws would be enforced.
He maintained that the government would distribute public land among the landless poor farmers, new land reforms would be introduced and interest-free loans would be provided to the poor farmers.
He said construction of new dams and making the production and distribution of the electricity more effective are also parts of the MMA manifesto.
"The MMA is aimed at rooting out politics of corruption from the country," he said, alerting that, otherwise, Pakistan's future generations would bear the burden of debt. He said that MMA would work for strengthening the democratic institutions of the country. He said MMA would oppose any delay in the elections.
Fazl also said that MMA would hold a public meeting in Karachi on June 9.
MMA is an alliance of religio-political parties that had emerged on the country's political horizon by contesting the 2002 general elections and divided before 2008 general elections. It was revived in December 2017.
The alliance consists of Maulana Fazlur Rehman-led Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl, Sirajul Haq-led Jamaat-e- Islami (JI), Allama Sajid Mir-led Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadith (JAH) and Allama Sajid Naqvi-led Islami Tehreek Pakistan (ITP).
