Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday extended last date for filing nomination papers from Friday (June 8) to Monday (June 11) to facilitate all aspiring candidates of the general election. In a statement, the Commission said nomination papers for reserved seats for women and non-Muslims can also be filed till Monday. It said priority lists of candidates for reserved seats should also be submitted till Monday.
Meanwhile, the Commission fixed the last date for receipt of applications for postal ballot papers for general election to the National Assembly and the provincial assemblies as July 5, 2018. This facility, under the law, has been extended to the persons in government service, members of armed forces, their spouses and children and also to the persons with physical disability. Last date to post the ballot is fixed as July 10.
According to the Election Commission, applications for the postal ballot shall be made on the prescribed form available on the ECP website or may be obtained from relevant returning officer of the constituency.
The voters to whom postal ballots are issued will not be entitled to vote in person at the polling station. The Election Commission has suspended at least four assistance returning officers for their negligence. They include assistant returning officers of NA-210, NA-209, PP-40 and PB-26 of Quetta. The Commission has also ordered inquiry against these officers.
