Uruguay arrive in Russia five days before first game

11 Jun, 2018

Uruguay became the latest team to arrive in Russia on Sunday, touching down in Nizhny Novgorod after a 16-hour flight, five days ahead of their first World Cup game. The Celeste, welcomed by a small group of fans at the city's airport, will be based in Bor, some 20 kilometres from central Nizhny.
Not surprisingly, stars Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani drew the biggest cheers from well-wishers, some of who had waited several hours to see the South American team arrive despite the cold weather. Uruguay have been drawn in Group A alongside hosts Russia, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. They play their first game on June 15 against Egypt in Yekaterinburg.
