Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday sought the detailed reply from Advocate General Sindh in a contempt of court petition regarding removal of encroachments and occupation from parks and play grounds in the metropolis. The SC bench headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmed at Karachi Registry took up the petition of former City Nazim Naimatullah Khan, which moved the court against the authorities for not implementing the court orders viz-a-viz- removal of encroachments from parks and play grounds in Karachi.
Advocate General Sindh Zamir Ghumro appeared in the court and told the court that Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has implemented the court orders about parks and play grounds.
"Are you stating it with full responsibility that encroachments have been removed from parks and play grounds," Justice Gulzar asked Advocate General Sindh and inquired whether the encroachments from Kashmir Road have been removed or not.
The Advocate General pleaded for two-day time to appraise the court about the implementation of court orders. The court approving the request of Advocate General directed him to submit the comprehensive reply in the court and ordered to ensure removal of encroachments from Kashmir Road.
Meanwhile, the SC imposed Rs 50000 fine on Secretary Establishment and Attorney General each for not submitting the reply in a case pertaining to police officials with patchy background in Sindh.
At Karachi Registry, the SC bench headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmed resumed the hearing on the case for the second successive day regarding the actions against police officials having criminal records and 'out of turn' promotions in Sindh.
The apex court, which showed displeasure over non-compliance its orders and directed Secretary Establishment to submit its reply, penalized both Secretary Establishment and Attorney General Office when it imposed Rs 50000 fine each and directed them to submit their replies in the next hearing.
Deputy Attorney General had sought the time to submit the report in the last hearing whereas Secretary Establishment was bound to submit the report about the actions and inquires against those officials who have been found to be indulged in unlawful activities.
Former IG Police Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali along with the others have been charged with illegal appointments in Sindh police and inquiries are underway against 35 officials of provincial police above grade 18.
Besides, the SC turned down the bail before arrest application of former Secretary Land Utilization Sindh Ghulam Mustafa Phul in illegal utilization of government land.
Mustafa Phul along with two co-accused illegal is charged with converting 70 acres of industrial land to residential and commercial purpose illegally in Malir area of Karachi 1n 2011, causing grave losses to national exchequer.
It may be recalled that Sindh High Court had rejected the interim bail of accused Ghulam Mustafa Phul and two other accused and escaped from the premises of the high court.
The accused moved the SC to grant him bail before arrest in the illegal land utilization case. However, the SC bench also turned down the bail application of the accused, who was arrested in the court by NAB authorities.
