The country's import of mobile phones surged to $678.607 million in July-April 2017-18, up by 19 percent, official figures say. Increase in import of cellular handsets now stands at $106.227 million in July-April 2017-18 from $572.380 million in July-April 2016-17, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics indicates.
About $75.532 million of mobile phones were imported in April 2018, which is 58 percent or $27.594 million higher, as compared the handset import of $47.938 million in April 2017.
Overall telecom imports grew to $1.266 billion in July-April 2017-18, up by 12 percent or $134.792 million, from $1.131 million in July-April 20161-7. In April 2018, the country's telecom imports posted a rise of 30.16 percent or $31.079 million to $134.117 million from $103.038 million in April 2017.
