Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) have demanded removal of governors and suspension of local bodies for holding free and fair elections in the country.
In a letter to the caretaker prime minister PTI Chairman Imran Khan has demanded the removal of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, saying that the process of "free and fair elections will be compromised" if he continued to hold the office.
Talking to the media, PTI leader Babar Awan demanded the removal of Punjab Governor Rafique Rajwana, saying that the media cell of Maryam Nawaz, daughter of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, is being operated from the Governor's House and this raises question marks over the process of a fair election. He also demanded appointment of administrators of the local bodies' institutions and immediate transfer of all SHOs, as well as tehsildars of Punjab.
Talking to Muslim League-Q leaders, workers and prominent figures of Gujrat and Talagang on Monday PML-Q senior central leader and former Punjab Chief Minister Ch Parvez Elahi said that free, fair and transparent election cannot be held without suspending local bodies
He said N-League has started pre-poll rigging in Punjab through local bodies, N-League local bodies' members and chairmen are undertaking works of N-League candidates locally and also organizing their public meetings.
He alleged that N-league local bodies' members and chairmen are threatening the polling staff and are influencing them.
Ch Parvez Elahi said that for holding fair and transparent election in Punjab it is essential that local bodies should be completely suspended till July 25, since suspending development funds of local bodies is not enough.
He said the caretaker governments are claiming about holding of fair and transparent elections but if the local bodies are not suspended till July 25 then this claim of the caretaker governments will not be based on reality
He called upon the caretaker governments and Election Commission to take immediate notice of this situation to make their promises credible. It may be added that PTI and PML-Q have made some seat adjustments in Punjab and might be coalition partners in future set-up.
