Brushing aside the notion that police force will be used for manipulating the upcoming general elections, newly-appointed Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations) Lahore Shahzad Akbar has vowed to ensure free, fair and transparent elections. "Holding of free, fair and transparent elections will be my utmost priority," he said during a brief discussion with reporters at his office on Monday.
He said people will see the impartiality of the police during the elections and no political pressure will be entertained. To a query, he said that transfers and postings of the Station House Officers (SHOs) are under process and they will assume their duties shortly as per the directions of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). There is a general perception that police force is being used to manipulate elections, but the Lahore police will ensure its impartiality and the people will see, he claimed.
