Punjab Caretaker Livestock and Dairy Development Minister Mian Nauman Kabeer has said that role of livestock and dairy sector is very pivotal to meet the food needs of 220 million people of Pakistan.
"In this regard, Pakistan Dairy Association (PDA) should give full attention to the research, development and innovations so that milk, meat and eggs could be provided to the people at subsidized rates," he said this while talking to a delegation of PDA here on Thursday.
DG Punjab Food Authority Noor ul Amin Mengal was also present on the occasion. The delegation was comprised of chamber of commerce and representatives of other private companies.
The minister said that the Livestock department is taking effective measures to increase the production of milk.
He asked the PDA to educate the farmers about regular vaccination of their animals and informed them that latest models followed by different countries are being introduced by the livestock department to help increase the production of milk in the province.
"Punjab is the food basket of the country and the PDA should give attention to research in food industry so that production could be increased in wake of rising population," he added.
He assured the PDA delegation about redressing their reservations.
The Food Authority DG said that cooperation is being made with the PDA to increase production of dairy products and the people are being made aware about the importance of pure milk.
The delegation thanked the Punjab government for its cooperation and said that credit goes to the minister for taking all the stakeholders on board in this regard.
