Provincial Caretaker Minister for Excise and Taxation and Narcotics Control (ET&NC) Mushtaq Ahmed Shah has advised the department to send property tax challans through a reputed courier service or UMS to the houses in order to improve property tax collection and keep property tax reasonable so that the people may afford it.
Presiding over a meeting, he suggested sending SMS to property tax defaulters so that they might get alert to pay the taxes. He was of the view that the sub registrar offices should be obligated to ask the concerned people to produce paid property tax certificate at the time of property transfer and doing so would definitely improve tax collections.
It was also decided in the meeting that choice number series should go together with normal serial number. Shah also suggested that Executive Counters such as NADRA's should be established to facilitate the tax payers. The ET Director General Shabbir Ahmed Shaikh briefed the caretaker minister regarding the working of Sindh Excise and Taxation Department Sindh.
The Director General Narcotics Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui told the chair that check posts were doing good job and usually 200 to 250 cases regarding narcotics were detected per year.
The caretaker minister assured that proper training would be arranged for the officers/officials of the ET&NC department to enable them to meet challenges of the changing circumstances.
It was decided that from grade 14 to above staff in Narcotics Wing would be recruited through Sindh Public Service Commission.Secretary ET&NC Aijaz Ahmed Mahesar and all regional directors also attended the meeting. Caretaker minister Mushtaq Shah also holds the portfolios of Irrigation, Inter-Provincial Coordination, Public Health Engineering, Rural Development departments of the Sindh Government.
