Sindh Water Commission (SWC) on Thursday granted three months time to twenty six industries of Karachi for installation of treatment plants and two months for installation of septic tanks by directing to seal these industries if the orders are not complied with.
Owners and representatives of 39 factories appeared in the proceedings of the commission, headed by former Justice Amir Hani Muslim. The commission withdrew the notices to eleven factories after Sindh Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) informed the commission that treatment plants and septic tanks have been installed at these factors under its orders.
The commission also issued bailable warrants of owners of the three factories after they failed to show up in the proceedings in violation of the commission's orders and directed them to appear before the commission on July 2.
The commission chief said that industrialists of Karachi should ensure installation of treatment plants in their factories, otherwise their factories would be shut down for non-installation these plants. On the report of SEPA, the commission had issued notices to various industries for installation of treatment plants and septic tanks.
During the proceedings, the officials of Port Qasim Authority (PQA) informed that the commission that tenders have been invited to lay sewerage lines, which would be completed within the zone in two months time.
Meanwhile, Director General (DG) Karachi Development Authority (KDA) Sami Siddiqui told the commission that authority has started taking steps to hand over Gujjar & Mahmoodabad Nullahs to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation by shifting the record today.
