A delegation of Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) led by its President Tariq Malik met Sindh Minister for Environment Jameel Yusuf and discussed various issues including highly polluting batching plants which is not only a health hazard for the area but also damaging the roads and other public infrastructure. The minister assured the delegation members to take strict action against the polluting units.
It was also noted that the environmental approvals for EMPs, IEEs, EIA's and import permissions are long pending on part of SEPA which is seriously damaging the economic activity.
The delegation members emphasized that the approval process should be expedited and the backlog of all approvals need to be cleared on war footing basis.
Other issues including the construction and operation of the Combined Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) and waste management issues were also discussed.
The delegation included Zubair Chhaya, Masood Naqi, Gulzar Firoz and Saleem-uz-Zaman. They thanked the minister for his intervention in these key issued and hoped that this meeting will bring a positive change for the economic and environmental conditions of Karachi.
