PTI to take action against members contesting as independents

04 Jul, 2018

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday decided to take action against party members who are going to contest upcoming election as independent candidates despite assurance to the party some months back that they would not betray the party if they were declined tickets.
The move came a day after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued a notice to Chairman PTI Imran Khan, seeking a clarification on an affidavit restricting party members. In a statement issued here, the PTI said it would take action against those individuals who are violating the party discipline.
Citing the affidavit signed by party members promising not to contest election as an independent candidate if they were not awarded a ticket, the press release said those retracting from the oath are also violating the Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution. The names of those contesting election independently will be forwarded to a two-member committee comprising Naeem-ul-Haq and Arshad Dad.
