Lyari violence: MMA demands withdrawal of FIR

04 Jul, 2018

Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) on Tuesday called for cancellation of the FIR aimed at implicating innocent people in pelting stones at the motorcade of Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari during his latest visit to Lyari. Speaking at a joint press conference at their main election office in Bihar Colony, MMA's electoral contestants from Lyari Maulana Noor-ul-Haq, Syed Abdul Rasheed and Fazal-ur-Rehman Niazi rebuffed PPP's allegations against MMA for Lyari episode.
They suggested that PPP should constitute a probe committee headed by Raza Rabbani to ascertain the reason behind the vandalism and protest against the PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on his visit to Lyari. Syed Abdul Rasheed accused PPP's ex-MNA Nabil Gabol of taking revenge from the party because of having been left-out in the race for NA-246 polls.
MMA's candidates claimed Gabol was disloyal to the PPP. However, they lauded people of Lyari, calling them are peace-loving. They further claimed that PPP was taken aback by the recent protest as it foresaw it clear defeat in the election-fray. They said PPP had hatched a plan to pit Kachhi and Baloch against each other in Lyari. They turned down Nabil Gabol's assertion that bearded people with turban on heads and white flags in hands were involved. MMA candidates said Gabol failed to recognize who were the vandals but he blamed indirectly on a religious party.
Abdul Rasheed said even Bilawal showed ignorance on water crisis in Lyari. He said PPP's bigwigs are also answerable for illegal sales of medicines worth millions of rupees that were meant for poor patients coming to Lyari General Hospital for treatment. He said PPP's politicians whom people of Lyari had elected never helped them with uplift schemes.
"Jamaat-e-Islami Chief, Senator Siraj-ul-Haq and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman, Imran Khan and heads of the other political parties have visited Lyari recently without any problem," he said, adding that the public is angry at the PPP leadership for being completely abandoned during the last 10 years of its long rule in the province. He warned Nabil Gabol to avoid badmouthing against religious parties in the country.
