A course of Chinese language at the Collectorate of Customs was part of capacity building efforts of the Collectorate, said Collector Customs Jamil Nasir. He was speaking at a certificate distribution ceremony at the Mughalpura Dry Port on Wednesday which was attended by senior officers, representatives of Customs Agents Association and participants of the course.
The Chinese language course was conducted in pursuance of a Memorandum of Understanding between TEVTA and Model Customs Collectorate on March 29. The classes spanned over 10 weeks.
He said most of the imports carried out through that Collectorate were coming from China and in that context some knowledge of Chinese language was highly important, especially for the examiners and appraising officers so that import documents containing Chinese writings and words could be deciphered by them for correct examination and assessment of goods.
Consulate General of China in Lahore Du Genqi appreciated the initiative of the Collectorate and mentioned about deep historical relationship between China and Pakistan. Chief Collector Customs (Central Region) Zeba Hai Azhar lauded the initiatives taken by the Collector and his team, especially in the realm of capacity building. On this occasion, certificates of appreciation were distributed among 34 participants who successfully completed the course.
