The Punjab Agriculture Department has urged the farmers to pay special heed towards their standing crop besides keep a vigilant eye on weather forecast. The department has asked the growers to make their irrigation plans for standing crops according to the weather forecast.
A department's spokesman disclosed on Wednesday that on one side of the field of cotton and vegetable, crops like rice, sugarcane and fodder should be grown so that excessive water from cotton and vegetable crops could be drained to water loving crops. He advised farmers to improve drainage system and to construct small water reservoirs at farm level. Removal of weeds after rain is very important in standing crop as weeds utilize moisture and food which are to be used by crops and also serve as debris for harmful insects and pests, he added.
The spokesman advised that farmers should consult field staff of extension department for use of weedicide spray.
