A lower court of Islamabad Thursday awarded seven year imprisonment to an accused in the Axact fake degree scandal, including the company's CEO Shoaib Sheikh. District and Sessions Judge Chaudhry Mumtaz Hussain announced the judgment on the conclusion of hearing of the case.
Shoaib Sheikh and others were sentenced to 3 years each under sections 419 and 420 of Pakistan Penal Code, and fined Rs 3 million each. They were also sentenced to 7 years each under sections 468 and 471, and fined Rs 1 million each.
The court also acquitted three accused, including Aisha Shoaib Sheikh.
Earlier, a trial court had acquitted the accused in the same case, but later on the Islamabad High Court (IHC) turned down the decision on appeal of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
