MCC (Preventive) Karachi surpasses target

Model Customs Collectorate (Preventive), Karachi has surpassed the target of Rs 158,868.59 million by Rs 1181.11 million, depicting 16.65% growth in FY 2017-18. According to details, the collection under the head of Customs duty stood at Rs 51,060.65 million as against the target of Rs 50.658 million, exceeding the target by Rs 402 million, witnessing 23.66 percent growth as compared to previous year.
Similarly, the sales tax collection target of Rs 91.239 million was also surpassed by Rs 2.261 million with a collection of Rs 93,619.27 million. This was an increase of 16.15% against the collection during the financial year.
The Collectorate also managed to exceed the custom duty target of Rs 5185.99 for the month of June by Rs 644 million. The collection during June 2017-18 registered an increase 12.41% over the corresponding period of the previous year.
The performance of anti-smuggling organization of MCC (Preventive), Karachi also remained commendable to curb smuggling of illicit drugs, alcohol, beer, cigarettes, Gutkha, diesel, mobile phones, betel nuts and other contraband goods during financial year 2017-18.
The enforcement activities were at full blast throughout the year. In terms of number of seizure made vis-a-vis preceding financial year 2016-17, a growth of 63% has been witnessed this year (2017-18). Misc. Goods showed hefty increase of 162%, involving value of goods to the tune to Rs 1514 million, seized in the year 2017-18 as compared to the last financial year.
The misc. items were mainly comprising of mobile phones/tablets, betel nuts, cigarettes, Gutkha etc. In addition, seizures of Gutkha/cigarettes from passenger buses/pick-ups etc seriously damaged the interest of smuggling gangs. Besides, quantity of smuggled diesel surged by 47% in comparison with the previous financial year.
This financial year 2017-18 has no match with the figures of preceding year when it comes to narcotics. For instance, 8572.51 kilograms herion powder & charas were seized this year as compared to 68.62 kilograms over the corresponding period of the previous year.
