A division bench of the Lahore High Court on Thursday set aside the decision of an appellate tribunal disqualifying former prime minister Shahid Khakan Abbasi for life and restraining him from contesting elections.
The bench also set aside the decision against a PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry allowing him to contest election from NA-67, Jhelum. The bench had already allowed them provisionally to contest the polls after suspending the impugn order.
The appellate tribunal declaring Abbasi and Chaudhry being guilty of concealing facts had rejected their nomination papers. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi after appearing before the court talked to the media persons and expressed his wish for a fair and free election in Pakistan and urged all state institutions to remain in their constitutional jurisdiction.
In past the general elections had been facing interference from the institutions, he said, and added, "I hope this time election may not become controversial for the stability of country".
He said the PML-N had revealed all the conspiracies before the people of Pakistan and left it for them to announce their verdict on the election day.
About the return of former premier Nawaz Sharif, he said Nawaz Sharif would come back as soon as health of his ailing wife will improve. The PML-N would be missing his absence during the election campaign but its leadership had the depth to run it with full passion.
