Caretaker Minister for Labour & Human Resources, Simon John Daniel has said that a smart card on the pattern of CNIC should be issued to each registered worker which would be valid for availing labour department, Sindh Employees Social Security Institution (SESSI) and Sindh Workers welfare Board (SWWB) facilities.
Responding to variation in the number of registered workers with Labour department, SESSI and SWWB, Simon John Daniel desired to create centralized data of registered workers and computerization of all relevant record of workers.
Presiding over meeting regarding welfares measure undertaken for workers and their families here at SWWB, he said that a committee comprising officials of labour department, SESSI and SWWB should be formed on regional levels to hold meeting with chambers of commerce & industries and mill owner association to persuade them for verification of pending cases of workers' families. In this regard, he added that an awareness campaign should be launched through print & electronic media for the information & education of companies. He also sought intervention of industrialists/company owners' intervention for verification to dispose off 2216 pending cases of welfare measures for workers' families pertaining to scholarships, marriage grants and death grants.
Simon John Daniel observed that funds were available with SWWB for disbursement to workers under various welfare schemes which were collected from companies/ industrial units adding that SWWB rules of business requires merely authentication/verification of workers credentials from relevant industrial unit/company.
Earlier, in briefing , minister was informed that during last three months Rs46.6 million have been disbursed to workers against 552 marriage grants cases pertains to Larkana region; Rs1.5 million against three death grants of Karachi region, while Rs0.5 million in a single case of death grant pertaining to Sukkur region. Minister was further briefed that 500 cases of scholarship; 200 marriage grants and 250 cases of death grants pertaining to Karachi region were pending due to delay caused in authentication/ verification from relevant industrial units/ companies.
Similarly in Hyderabad region 350 marriage grants and 250 death grants; in Sukkur region 77 scholarship, 500 marriage grants and 27 death grants; while in Larkana region 147 marriage and 15 death grant cases of workers families. were pending due to non-cooperation of companies for. verification. Secretary SWWB Syed Mehdi Shah, Director Finance Anwar Ausaf, Dy. Director Welfare Ahtisham and Dy. Director Technical Muzafar Shah and others were also present on the occasion.
